Eddie Nketiah’s future at Leeds United is still up in the air following the final game of 2019 after The Athletic’s Phil Hay agreed with some fans that it did look like the striker was waving goodbye on Sunday afternoon.
What’s he said?
Marcelo Bielsa’s side came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s stadium, where the Arsenal loanee was handed a rare start in the absence of top goalscorer Patrick Bamford.
Following the match, it appeared as if Nketiah was waving goodbye to the travelling support which has led to several fans asking the same question to the Leeds reporter.
Hay provided an update, he said:
“I still can’t say. It did look like a farewell wave but Leeds are still in the dark about what Arsenal are going to do.
“I’ll check with Bielsa where he’s at. I haven’t been told that he’s going back but it’s evidently a possibility.”
January looming
There are just a few days remaining in 2019 before a new year and a new decade take over, and Leeds are sitting in prime position in the Championship.
The Whites have retaken the lead at the top of the table ahead of their clash with nearest challengers West Bromwich Albion in a few days time.

However, there have been continuous reports over the future of Nketiah as he has only started three times in all competitions, Sunday afternoon the first of which in the league.
His departure would leave Bielsa very light in attack with only Bamford being able to play there when fit. If he’s injured like he is currently, then Leeds would be stuffed.
The Argentinian may need to persuade the Gunners over his future playing time in order to convince them to let the young striker stay at the club.
