Manchester United will be without Ashley Young at Stoke on Sunday after he picked up an ankle knock against Manchester City.
The England winger was forced out of the 2-1 derby defeat at Old Trafford on Monday evening after being caught by Pablo Zabaleta’s hefty challenge during stoppage time at the end of the second half.
Shinji Kagawa came on to replace Young for the final few minutes of the match and he could remain in the side this weekend when United travel to face the struggling Potters at the Britannia Stadium.
Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that Young, who has featured in 23 games in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, faces a race against time if he is going to shake off the effects of his ankle knock in time to line up against Tony Pulis’ side.
“We’ve got six days until the Stoke game and, obviously, Ashley may be out,” said Ferguson.
“It may not be serious but I think he’ll miss Sunday’s game.”
